AES NEWS

Message From Mrs. Kruger 10/18/20

The following is some information and important dates that may relate to you and/or your student(s) for the upcoming week.

1. Follow-up to the 10/14 COVID-19 email where DHHS informed us that there was a confirmed student case of COVID-19. They did not suggest any changes at the school and subsequently confirmed on 10/16 that there was no exposure to the AES school community.

2. 4th grade NHSAS Interim Testing will be conducted on 10/20 for Cohort A 4th grade students and 10/21 for Cohort B 4th grade students. Please note that the NHDOE has asked all schools to conduct the much shorter interim tests in grades 4-8 to help educators guide instruction and plan for any needed shifts to better meet student needs. All students are being tested at their previous grade level for all tests.

3. 10/20 – TRIMESTER 1 PROGRESS Check. Please go into your ALMA portal on Tuesday after 3:00 pm to check the trimester 1 progress of your student(s). If you have questions or concerns please reach out directly to the teacher or case manager.

4. ATTENDANCE Reminder – Students do have assignments for the days that they are engaged in independent learning at home. If a student returns to school and has not completed work and there has been no communication from the parent, the student will be marked absent for the day they were home. If your student has an appointment (please get a note), is ill, you should notify the office so that it is accounted for in the attendance record. We have to account for attendance to the State of NH for all days (remote and in school).

5. 10/19 Monday is a Cohort A day

6. AES students are currently working on PBIS activities that include designing and creating a classroom scarecrow that we plan to move outside for the community to enjoy during the week of 10/26-10/30. In addition, we are working on other activities that require some supplies. The PTO has published a sign-up Genius to help. Please go to the following link if you want to donate supplies. We can accept donations 10/19-10/21. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0b4faaae2baafb6-aesfall

Message From Mrs. Kruger 10/4/20

Dear Parent/Guardian:

It is hard to believe that we are already in the month of October! Remember…tomorrow, Monday, 10/5 is a cohort B day.

Here is some news, information, reminders, and important dates for AES:

1. Our website has a new look. Check it out! http://asd.sau53.org/

1. Many classes have been taking advantage of the outdoor tent and other outdoor spaces and the weather has been very cooperative. We are going to leave the spaces set-up for as long as possible. Students should dress for the weather.

2. Students are encouraged to wear our school colors(green and white) on Thursday for cohort A and Friday for cohort B. Students waring school colors earn a “spirit eagle buck”. They will be able to spend their eagle bucks on activities and prizes.

3. Students do have assignments for the days that they are engaged in independent learning at home. If a student returns to school and has not completed any work and there has been no communication from the parent, the student will be marked absent for the day they were home.

4. Free lunch for all students has been extended for the rest of the 20-21 school year. If you are a family that would normally benefit from the free lunch program, you are still encouraged to complete the application. If your application is done, then any change in programming would not interrupt benefits for your student(s).

5. School Pictures are scheduled for 10/13 (cohort A) and 10/14 (cohort B). We will be looking at a timeframe for students that are remote to come in for pictures. The time has not yet been determined.

6. Since all NH students missed state testing last spring, the State of NH is having all students in grades 4-8 take an interim assessment in October. They are having students take the test from one grade below their current grade. For example, a 4th grade student would take a 3rd grade test. The purpose of the test is to help staff determine instructional goals and for the state to determine the impact of remote learning on students. Our 4th grade students will test in reading, math, writing. We will share the test schedule once it is set.

7. The drop off and pick up procedures are working pretty well. Things feel safer and afternoon pick up goes quickly. Thank you for your patience and assistance while we made these shifts.

8. This is a reminder that the bell rings at 8:10. If your student arrives after 8:10, then they are considered tardy. In addition, parents are able to call out their student 5 times a year. Absences after those 5 days require appropriate documentation or they are considered “unexcused”. The state of NH defines habitual truancy as having 5 or more full days of unexcused absences. Please get notes for the office anytime you take your student to a medical or dental appointment. This helps us keep the most accurate attendance records.

9. If your student has a device, please help to make sure that he/she brings their device to/from school. It is very difficult for them to be involved at school without a device and currently we do not have extras.

10. Mrs. Petersons has been allowing students to choose a new book for their birthday. We have enough books to make sure every student gets a “Birthday Book” this year.

Other October dates:

10/12 – No School – Holiday

10/19 – School Board meeting at 6:00 pm at AES

Message From Mrs. Kruger 9/20/20

Parents/Guardians/Students/Staff:

The following are some reminders for the upcoming week:

1. COHORT B HAS SCHOOL ON MONDAY (tomorrow), Wednesday, and Friday. Cohort A attends school on Tuesday and Thursday (hybrid calendar attached).
2. Click to see Allentown PTO – 20-21 Meeting Schedule.
3. The new dismissal process is allowing us to get through dismissal quicker. If you have a student in Kindergarten that is a walker, we are going to try a new way to get them to the walker pick-up area, so parents don’t have to walk over to the car pick-up area.
4. We are planning to begin assigning devices. Please make sure your student has turned-in their device agreement.
5. We are trying to have students outside as much as possible so please help you student dress appropriately for cooler weather.
6. If you want your child to have a meal for the day that they are at home, please tell them to take a lunch when they leave each day. Bagged meals are located at the exit every day. We make announcements and encourage students to take a meal if they want/need it, but we can’t force any student to take a bag.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me or Sarah Petersons.

Have a great week!

Shannon Kruger

Message From Mrs. Kruger 9/13/20

Good Evening AES Families,

It was great to see the students back in the building and they have been amazing. I think they exceeded everyone’s expectations at how easily they acclimated to the protocols that are in place to help keep everyone safe. The hybrid model made our school opening manageable and it allowed staff, students, and administration to problem solve and adjust routines and practices. Staff are taking advantage of the nice weather and using the big trees and the tents we have to get students outside as much as possible for classes and breaks.

Thank you for all your support and helping your student return to school and learning.

Shannon Kruger, ASD Principal

News and reminders (make sure to read #6 if you pick up your student at the end of the day)

1. The hybrid schedule for this week is:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday – Cohort A attends school

Wednesday and Friday – Cohort B attends school

2. School Board Meeting – 6:00 pm on Monday, 9/14 at ARD

3. PTO will be holding a Zoom meeting on Tuesday, 9/15 at 6:00 pm. The PTO will be sending out the link.

4. All students under the age of 18 are eligible for free lunch until 12/31/20 or until funding runs out.

5. Device Agreements are due and all students have been given a copy for parent signature. A device will only be assigned to a student that has a device agreement on record. I have attached the form.

6. IMPORTANT CHANGES TO DISMISSAL BEGINNING 9/14. If you pick up your student please read and be prepared for the changes.

    • Once the buses exit the loop, car pick up parents can begin pulling into the big loop to pick up students. We think that using the bigger loop will allow us to get more cars in the loop, load students more quickly and get families on their way. It will also allow us to separate vehicles from walking parents/students.

    • All walkers and parents that come to the walker pick-up area will continue to go to the small loop. Parents are still welcome to park and walk to the small loop to meet their child and then return to their parked car. Children in both areas will line-up by grade level. We already began the grade level lines and this helps add some order to the students instead of just one big group. If the weather is bad, we will have the use of the awning in the front of the building and the gymnasium where students can be distanced and stay dry.

    • We don’t know if this will work, but it is worth a try to see if we can expedite afternoon dismissal and increase the level of safety between students and vehicles.

REMEMBER…COHORT A has school tomorrow (Monday).
