Message From Mrs. Kruger 1/2/21

Dear Parent/Guardian:

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family!

We look forward to welcoming back your student(s) next week. Below are some notes and  information to help you prepare for the return to school.

I hope you got to see the announcement from 12/23 sharing the exciting news that we are the recipient of a $1600.00 music grant from the NHCF and a $10,000.00 Nurturing Neighbor grant from Shaw’s. We can’t wait to research and implement programs for students and families. We also hope to hear very soon from the NH Dept. of Education on where Allenstown ranks for state building aide towards a possible new K-8 school project. Stay tuned for updates!

Shannon Kruger, ASD Principal

  1. Monday and Tuesday are Cohort A days.  Cohort B returns on Wednesday.
  2. If your family traveled outside of New England over the holiday, you are a close contact to a positive case, or your student has tested positive, please reach out to Mrs. Brison to confirm your quarantine dates so you know when it will be safe for your child to return to school. You can email Mrs. Brison at [email protected] .
  3. Your student will begin with a new unified arts class next week.
  4. If your student wants to play in the snow, please make sure they come to school with boots, snow pants, coat, hat, and gloves. If you need assistance with winter clothing, please reach out to Mrs. Douzanis, School counselor or Mrs. Brison, School Nurse [email protected] or [email protected]
  5. If your student wears boots to school, please also send along a pair of shoes for the student to wear during the day.
  6. Click January menus for breakfast and lunch menus.
  7. Attendance reminder – Parents can call out their student 5 days each year. Absences after those 5 days require documentation or they are considered unexcused absences. Once a student has 5 unexcused absences, they are considered habitually truant according to the State of NH definition.  School begins at 8:10. If a student arrives anytime after 8:10, they are considered tardy. If you have any questions, please email Shannon Kruger or Sarah Petersons.
  8. Remote VLACS Students – Mrs. Petersons will be doing a progress check early next week to make sure all students have a VLACS unified arts class and that every student has requested or has begun their academic classes. As of today, all elementary classes are open (with the exception of a couple grade 2 sections). If you need assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Petersons at [email protected]. Message From Admin Team 11/1/20

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Between the Friday snow and turning our clocks back, it is official that we are headed into the winter season.

Stay well!

Shannon Kruger and the ASD Team

Here are a few notes for the following week:

1. TOMORROW, MONDAY, 11/2, IS A COHORT B DAY.

2. ATTENDANCE – All students now have to check-in via Google on their remote days between 8:00 – 9:30 and they did an excellent job learning the system last week. This week IT COUNTS. If a student does not check-in, a call will go out to the parent/guardian. If a student is ill or has an appointment, the parent should still call the school and share that information. PLEASE NOTE: Google does not send the attendance report to the school until the window ends at 9:30. You will get the “attendance not taken” message until the report is fully processed which can take up to an hour.

3. THURSDAY is an EARLY RELEASE DAY. Cohort A Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, 11/5 from 12:30 – 2:30. You can call 485-4474 if you have a cohort A student and would like a conference. Cohort B parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for 12/10. Cohort B parents can also call now to schedule for December.

4. New Devices! We were finally able to find some devices that could be delivered in 2020. The IT department worked swiftly to get them all ready to go out. As of now, All ARD student should have reliable devices this week.

5. There are 2 more New School Building/Renovation Forums scheduled for November. Click Forum Notice for more information.

Message From Mrs. Kruger 11/2/20

3. Today was the first day of the attendance protocol through Google. Mrs. Petersons called families that did not have their child check-in between 8:00-9:30. Your help with making sure your child is up in the morning to do this is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Message Regarding Attendance 10/25/20

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Even in a hybrid model, the district has to account for the attendance of students on their remote days and so far we have been attempting to do this only by tracking incomplete assignments. Now that all students have devices and are well aware of remote day expectations and resources (such as their Google Classrooms), we are going to begin an updated attendance procedure.

This week we will show students in both cohorts how to check-in for attendance on their remote days. They must check in the attendance Google Classroom between 8:00 – 9:30 from home. If a student does not check in and we do not hear from a parent, an automated call will be sent to the parent. If we still do not hear from someone, we will follow our well child check protocols.

As a reminder, parents can call their student out 5 days each year. After the 5 days, students need documentation to excuse their absence. If a student reaches 5 days of unexcused absences, they are defined as habitually truant according to the State of NH.

The new remote day attendance protocol won’t officially begin until November 2nd so that students can have a week to learn the system and parents have time to set the expectations at home for the remote days. This protocol is similar to what other schools in our SAU are doing for attendance.

Thank you,

Shannon Kruger and Sarah Petersons

Message From Mrs. Kruger 10/4/20

Dear Parent/Guardian,

It is hard to believe that we are already in the month of October! Remember…tomorrow, Monday, 10/5 is a cohort B day.

Here is some news, information, reminders, and important dates for ARD:

1. Our website has a new look. Check it out! http://asd.sau53.org/

2. The soccer team has their first away game tomorrow, Monday, 10/5 at Chichester Central School. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm and the field is located at the school (219 Main St.)

3. Eagle Block groups are starting this week.

4. Many classes have been taking advantage of the outdoor tent and stage spaces and the weather has been very cooperative. We are going to leave the spaces set-up for as long as possible. Students should dress for the weather.

5. Students do have assignments for the days that they are engaged in independent learning at home. If a student returns to school and has not completed any work and there has been no communication from the parent, the student will be marked absent for the day they were home.

6. Free lunch for all students has been extended for the rest of the 20-21 school year. If you are a family that would normally benefit from the free lunch program, you are still encouraged to complete the application. If your application is done, then any change in programming would not interrupt benefits for your student(s).

7. School Pictures are scheduled for 10/13 (cohort A) and 10/14 (cohort B). We will be looking at a timeframe for students that are remote to come in for pictures. The time has not yet been determined.

8. Since all NH students missed state testing last spring, the State of NH is having all students in grades 4-8 take an interim assessment in October. They are having students take the test from one grade below their current grade. For example, a 6th grade student would take a 5th grade test. The purpose of the test is to help staff determine instructional goals and for the state to determine the impact of remote learning on students. Students will test in reading, math, writing, and grades 5 and 8 students will also take the science test. We will share the test schedule once it is set.

9. Any student that is driven to/from school needs to be dropped off and picked up on School St. It is very dangerous to add cars to the parking lot as it is a very tight space trying to accommodate buses, walkers, and staff. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe.

9. Please help to make sure that your student brings their device to/from school. It is very difficult for them to be involved at school without a device and currently we do not have extras.

10. Student cell phones are off 8:00 – 2:22. If you need to reach your child, please call the office and we will deliver your message.

Other October dates:

Message From Mrs. Kruger 9/13/20

Good Evening ARD Families,

It was great to see the students back in the building and they have been amazing. I think they exceeded everyone’s expectations at how easily they acclimated to the protocols that are in place to help keep everyone safe. The hybrid model made our school opening manageable and it allowed staff, students, and administration to problem solve and adjust routines and practices. Staff are taking advantage of the nice weather and the tents we have to get students outside as much as possible for classes and breaks.

Thank you for all your support and helping your student return to school and learning.

Shannon Kruger, ASD Principal
