Dear ARD Parents/Guardians,

The plans for May and June are rapidly making them the two busiest months of the year ! I have shared some dates below so that you can help your student and family plan for ARD happenings.

During Eagle Block today, we all gathered for a community meeting. The first topic was the importance of using technology safely and responsibly. The second topic was to introduce the importance of upcoming testing. Part of the discussion was highlighting all of the positive things that have happened this year including points about student achievement. On the list was the fact that the ARD teachers have been publicly complimented by district personnel as emerging leaders in competency based education. Without adult direction, all ARD students joined each other in a round of applause for their teachers. It was one of the most amazing moments in my career to see middle school students show such admiration and respect for their teachers.I will be sharing more specifics about testing at the end of next week.

On Tuesday, Detective Dawn Shea, Allenstown Police Department and I presented at the PRIMEX annual conference. We shared our experience with creating a safety and response plan, implementing safety updates to the facility, submitting an Emergency Operations Plan, and forming a safety and response team. The following link will take you to a video of a brief discussion of staff and students about ARD’s safety training:

We celebrated Staff Appreciation Week with a few events for staff. On Tuesday, Ms. Towle, Mrs. Pham, and I cooked breakfast in the teachers room, yesterday the PTO catered a luncheon, and today we had a ongoing game of B-I-N-G-O. The PTO provided 22 gift cards that were won by staff. I would like to extend a HUGE, “thank you” to the Allenstown PTO for helping to make this such a special week, but also for all the amazing things they do for our students all year long!

Happy Mother’s Day and have a wonderful weekend!
Shannon Kruger
